Earth Day 2012

Earth Day is on April 22, the event was established in the US in 1970 and continues to gain popularity every year with more and more people and organizations pledging to reduce, reuse, and recycle. In both our homes and our workplace, Earth Day is an opportunity to act in ways that represent a fundamental improvement in the way we treat the earth.

Earth day events are taking place throughout the world, and people are participating in local events that promote environmentally responsibility.

As global leaders in environmental education and green schools the Earth Day Network understands the importance of education and awareness. Their award-winning Educators’ Network provides resources for teachers educating for a sustainable future.

This year, the Earth Day Network wants to Mobilize the Earth through campaigns such as A Billion Acts of Green, Campaign for Communities, Know Green, Go Green, Renewable Energy for All, Earth Day University – Mobilize U, among many others.

Change will not happen without a better understanding of climate change, its causes and ways of reducing our footprints. The promotion of education and awareness in our schools, home and workplaces is key to making the required changes.

Above all the core of Earth Day is about actions that reduce our footprints, not just on April 22, but through the year. We need to live each day with increased awareness so that we can make choices that better serve the planet.

We all have a stake in the health of the planet therefore we all should be involved in efforts to be better stewards of the Earth.
