On Tuesday, January 7, 2014 at 7 p.m. yet another train carrying oil derailed and exploded. The train carrying propane and crude oil derailed in in Wapske, a remote community five or six kilometres east of Plaster Rock, in northwestern New Brunswick. The regularly scheduled freight train was headed to Moncton from Central Canada when it came off the tracks about 150 kilometres northwest of Fredericton near the US border.

A total of 15 cars and one locomotive derailed including four carrying propane and another four carrying crude oil.

The wreck forced the evacuation of about 50 to 60 people within a two-kilometre radius of the fire remains in effect.  An evacuation center for those who had been forced out of their homes was set up in a local arena. Cold temperatures added to the difficulties of first responders.

The site has been secured by the RCMP and hazardous materials crews are onsite.
