The UK government has launched a new tool that plots our climate impacts and helps to forge a path to a low carbon world. This is a free open source tool designed to help us to understand the link between lifestyle, energy and climate. It addresses everything from the food we eat to the distances we travel.
The model upon which the Global Calculator is built draws
upon the latest IPCC climate science. It takes into account the energy,
materials and land required to enable us to reduce carbon emissions so
that we can stay within the internally agreed upon upper temperature
limits of 2 degrees Celsius (3.6 degrees Fahrenheit).
The Global Calculator is an interactive tool is for anyone interested in
exploring what a low-carbon world could look like in 2050. Anyone can download the full Excel model to explore all the assumptions used and methodology used. You can even make your own version to test out your ideas.
