The US has assumed control of the eight-nation member Arctic Council. The organization focuses on important issues facing the Arctic including climate change the needs of indigenous people. Against the will of other nations on the Council, Canada has used the body to express its displeasure over Russia’s invasion of the Ukraine. The US has promised to shift directions of the Council and focus on climate change and environmental issues after two years of feckless Canadian leadership.
