Voting for Trump is Tantamount to Treason

Donald Trump’s bid for the presidency is one of the worst things that has ever happened to America. Trump has demonstrated that he is dangerously unqualified to be president as he is profoundly ignorant about policy matters. As he derides American patriots, and America itself, he has revealed himself to be a self-serving pathological liar who may be suffering from narcissistic personality disorder.

None of his policy positions are more egregious or out of touch with reality than his position on climate change. Simply put he is a denier who would use his executive powers to halt climate action. According to Lux Research, if Trump were to become president his strident support for fossil fuels and coal in particular, would result in a 3.4 billion ton increase in greenhouse gas emissions if he were to serve two terms. This amounts to 16 percent increase compared to emission levels if Hilary Clinton were to become President.

Trump has also made it clear that he would slash environmental regulations, build pipelines, kill the Clean Power Plan, and withdraw from the Paris climate Agreement which just went into effect.

His one claim to fame is that he is that he considers himself to be a good businessman. However, many of the products that bear his name are abandoning the Trump brand. In 2015 Macy’s pulled Trump’s brand merchandise from its stores after only one year. Macy’s dumped Trump after his now infamous remarks about Mexican being “killers and rapists.” Macy’s explained the move in a statement saying the company “stands for diversity” and that it had no tolerance for discrimination. They went on to say the statements made by Trump, are “inconsistent with Macy’s values, we have decided to discontinue our business relationship with Mr. Trump and will phase-out the Trump menswear collection.” A MoveOn.org petition calling on Macy’s to sever its relationship with Trump had collected well over 700,000 signatures.

Univision announced that it was cutting all ties with Trump and they said they would not air the Miss USA pageant, which is partially owned by Trump.  Many of the buildings that bear the Trump name have decided to remove reference to the tarnished brand. Around the world people are avoiding Trump hotels and a building managed by Trump in Toronto has recently declared bankruptcy.

Many Republicans vowed not to support Trump before during and after he won the GOP’s nomination for president. He was deserted by even more Republicans after he was caught on tape laughing about sexually assaulting women.

Even in his home state and in his home city politicians are running from him like the plague. This includes former New York Gov. George Pataki, and New York City Mayor Bill de Blasio.

Who does support Trump? Not blacks, not women, not Latinos, not the educated, and not the young. Trump does enjoy support from a couple of heads of state including Kim Jong Ill and Vladimir Putin. He has publicly called Russia to continue its hacking into Hilary’s emails, a move which some have called treasonous.

The vast majority of his support comes from angry old white men. Although not a single major newspaper endorses Trump, he has secured support from the Klu Klux Klan’s rag (The Crusader).

Trump enjoys the support of conservatives politicians like Newt Gingrich and Rudy Giuliani. Under Trump the GOP has doubled down on misogyny. Trump’s “locker-room” talk fits right in with the current configuration of the GOP. Trump’s most infamous advisor Roger Ailes, was forced out of Fox News for multiple alleged, gross acts of sexual harassment. Then there is Corey Lewandowski, Trump’s fired campaign manager, who was caught on tape roughing up a female reporter.

Trump now faces 75 lawsuits and he is due to appear in court over the alleged rape of a 13 year old girl. One of the lawsuits is a class-action suit by those who were defrauded by Trump University which closed in 2010.

Trump has lowered the bar to unimaginable depths. He has sullied the institution of the presidency, cast aspersions on the fairness of the voting process and made a mockery out of America’s democracy. On numerous occasions he has advocated violence and he appears to be inciting people to react if he loses on November 8.
