The World Economic Forum Annual Meeting will take place on January 21-24, 2020 in Davos-Klosters, Switzerland. The event has 7 themes and offers a diverse range of content delivered by 600 speakers and 150 webcast sessions. The Forum engages the world’s top leaders in collaborative activities that shape global, regional and industry agendas. The Forum’s mission is about improving the state of the world. This guides the design and development of the Annual Meeting objectives. Participants will address the most pressing issues on the global agenda including many of the world’s most difficult environmental challenges. They will do so in the “Spirit of Davos”, which features interdisciplinary, informal and direct interaction among peers.

The Forum brings together stakeholders to help address the greatest ecological crisis of our time. This includes key topics like climate, mobility, energy and the circular economy. The platforms aims to facilitate action-oriented communities of stakeholders from all parts of the international system. As reported by The Guardian, climate activist Greta Thunberg is expected to tell world leaders that it is time to abandon fossil fuels.

In addition to discussing sustainability focused solutions, the Forum is committed to being a leader in practicing sustainability. It has has been awarded the ISO 20121 certification for sustainable event management. They recognize that in offering these platforms, they consume finite resources and cause emissions so they strive to mitigate their environmental impacts. Organizers describe the event as a climate neutral because all of their emissions are offset by supporting environmental projects in Switzerland and abroad. While aiming to make its summits more sustainable, the Forum is also working to improve the sustainability of its global operations, business processes and offices, improving the sustainability performance of its events, and integrating sustainability practices.

One of the themes of the Forum is “How to Save the Planet”. The Forum’s six other themes are as follows:

  • Fairer Economies
  • Better Business
  • Healthy Futures
  • Future of Work
  • Tech for Good
  • Beyond Geopolitics
